Ask Mabs: Chinese Cars

Hello Mabs

I’ve fallen in love with a Chinese SUV — it’s my dream car and perfect for our growing family. I’ve been approved for finance, but my husband, who’s loyal to legacy brands, won’t agree. He insists parts will be hard to find since the brand is new in South Africa. How can I convince him this is the right choice for us?

Mabs Answers:
Congratulations on finding a car that ticks all the boxes. That’s a big step! Your husband’s concerns are understandable, but they’re a bit outdated. Years ago, when French and Korean brands entered South Africa, parts availability was a real issue. But today, the Chinese have perfected their supply chains, not just for fast fashion, but for cars too. If parts were truly a problem, you wouldn’t see so many of these vehicles on our roads.

Chinese brands are here to stay, and they’ve built business models around convenience and customer confidence. Have an open chat with your husband, focusing on what matters most for your family’s comfort and budget. You might just find that modern Chinese cars make a lot more sense than their reputation suggests.
