Hi Mabs
Growing up I used to watch my dad check the car every morning to ensure it had sufficient oil, water, and the works, before leaving home. I’ve had my own car for three years now and I’ve never opened the bonnet to refill water or check anything. Am I neglecting my car?

Not at all! You’re not doing anything wrong. Modern cars are designed to be low- maintenance; most checks, like oil, coolant, and brake fluid, are handled during scheduled services. Plus, your car’s onboard system will alert you if anything needs attention.
In South Africa, we’re also lucky to have service station attendants who’ll happily check your water, oil, and tyres when you fill up, giving us an extra safety net. Still, it’s great that you’re asking; it’s the best way to learn more about your car.
