ASK MABS-Keeping Your Baby Safe in a Taxi

What’s the safest way to travel with an infant when using public transport like taxis, especially when proper seatbelts or child safety features aren’t being considered or available?

Mabs Answers:
I must be honest, I have never seen anyone wearing a safety belt in a taxi. I know for sure that taxis come with these safety features – to a certain degree at least – but implementation does not exist. Travelling with an infant in a taxi is tricky because of the culture where safety is not prioritised. The best option would be to carry your baby in a front-worn baby carrier (kangaroo style) or sling, keeping them snug and supported against your chest. This gives you more control in sudden stops. Also, try to sit away from doors and windows, ideally in the middle seat, for extra protection. Avoid holding your baby loosely on your lap. This is not a perfect solution, but every small step reduces risk until safer transport becomes the norm.
