In what could be viewed as a bid to drive sales and get vehicles off showroom floors and into consumers’ garages, GAC Motor South Africa, a recent Chinese entrant to the local market, has significantly reduced the prices of its two models, the Emzoom and the Emkoo.
The manufacturer attributed the price reduction to an improved foreign exchange rate at the end of 2024. According to Leslie Ramsoomar, Managing Director of GAC Motor South Africa, this reflects the company’s commitment to the South African market by directly passing on the currency savings to consumers.
“This price drop for the Emzoom and Emkoo is a testament to our belief that consumers deserve to benefit directly from favourable forex movements. This is a win for everyone — from our valued customers to our partners, who will see the fruits of our strategic investments in the market,” adds Ramsoomar.

The company is expanding its national footprint by increasing its dealer network and service centres to 40 locations, while also introducing new models to the South African market this year.
